by Linda Viertel
Dobbs Ferry is now home to the conveniently located Oasis Day Spa, the largest health spa in Westchester County. With 15 treatment rooms, a couples room, space for special events, a boutique and rooftop garden, Oasis is designed as a destination day spa that provides a comprehensive array of health and beauty treatments and services.

Owners Bruce and Marti Schoenberg feel strongly that, “the spa experience should be a wellness experience,” and, with that in mind, they have created a one -stop mecca, an affordable place to relax, rejuvenate and reinvigorate in any number of inviting ways.
Massages for both men and women, or couples, come in a variety of styles and time allotments to match any need or daily schedule. So, in keeping with an emphasis on wellness, the sports, medical or muscle meltdown, and deep tissue massages provide welcome relief from body aches and pains; they are a targeted approach to troubling physical conditions. Revitalizing Swedish, prenatal, lava stone or scalp treatment massages are also available as are other massage offerings.
New York State does not require ongoing continuing education for massage therapists or aestheticians, but at Oasis, the staff is required to be re-certified every two years. Bruce Baltz, a well known and highly respected massage therapist, who created the deep tissue stone massage, is in high demand and has trained the Oasis massage staff.
All Oasis skincare facials are customized to the client’s specific skin needs, and are performed utilizing carefully chosen green products such as G.M. Collins or the extensive Dermalogica treatment system. Additional skin care services include microdermabrasion, acne, sensitive skin, and collagen, treatments, and a variety of skin peels.
Basic beauty services for both men and women include waxing, manicures and pedicures, body wraps and scrubs. Spa packages are offered in an affordable price range, created to provide an extensive variety of health and beauty treatments in one allotted timeframe. They include everything from a “Lunchtime Delight” to “The Men’s Getaway” the “Mom-to-Be” or the “Total Body Wellness” package, though more packages are listed to cover any client’s needs.
Join Club Oasis and you will receive announcements of sales and promotions, special offers, invitations to private events, seminars, and workshops, plus wellness tips for a healthier lifestyle. Oasis-to-Go is another service the Schoenberg’s spa provides (24-hour notice is required). Oasis Spa’s rooftop garden, replete with a massage tent, multiple areas to lounge and relax, and numerous planters designed by Tarrytown’s Robert Westover Design, provides an outdoor escape with views of the surrounding hills. Inside, a relaxation room is a quiet space to enter before treatment or to relax afterwards; complimentary dried fruits and nuts, teas and waters are always on hand. An events room is also available for personal or corporate gatherings, and a party-planner can be requested to help plan for catering or other client needs.
Oasis Spa’s mission is to provide an affordable, destination day spa, an escape where guests are pampered in a peaceful and beautiful environment. But, if you can’t get to Oasis, the Oasis events team can come to you and offer therapeutic services in your home, office, or at any event. The Schoenbergs have been generous supporters of many Westchester cultural and philanthropic causes too, all the while educating clients about the importance of “wellness as a lifestyle, not a luxury.”
Farmer's Market Returns to Tarrytown
Spring is here, and Tarrytown’s Farmers’ Market opened for business on Saturday, May 30 in Patriot’s Park. All the vendors from last year returned, in addition to a variety of new producers providing a broad selection of prepared foods, wines, dairy products, specialty items, herbs and flowers, fresh fruits and vegetables, meats and poultry.
New farmers include Brian Gajeski of Gajeski Produce. By extending his growing season with hoop houses and greenhouses, he will be growing tomatoes up until Thanksgiving and lettuce mixes and baby leaf lettuce all year long. Gajeski also grows strawberries for spring and early summer, and a variety of colored cauliflowers from July until January. He will be offering eggplant cucumbers, artichokes, kale, leeks, garlic, broccoli , spinach, squash, peppers, cantaloupe and more.
Other new vendors include Calkins Creamery, selling an extensive selection of farmstead cow’s milk cheese; Warwick Valley Winery, which provides table wines plus hard apple and pear cider; and Monkshood Nursery and Gardens, a grower of certified organic potted and cut herbs, greens and mixed vegetables.
Farmers who have been Tarrytown’s mainstays over the years are on hand to provide their personal service and trusted products to the rivertowns. They include: Benmarl Winery, Bread Alone, Dines Farm, Meredith’s Bread, Newgate Farm, Pika’s Quiche, The Orchards of Conklin, Tierra Farm and Merriweathers Inc (a revolving vendor) introducing a cosmetic line.
This ever-expanding farmers’ market is proof residents are eager to know where and how their food is grown, enjoy a personal connection with their food-providers, and appreciate the personal commitment of local growers.
Tarrytown’s Farmers’ Market is open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., rain or shine, from May 30 to November 21.
